I was wondering if I could thread the barrel on my m44 mosin to 14x1 lh threads, to use kalash style muzzle brakes, has anyone done this? I realize that the mosin does not have the spring loaded pin that the Ak rifles do, so I would have to index the brake with a crush washer, but other than that, are there any particular obstacles to doing this?
If anyone is interested in doing this, I just completed the project, it is not only possible, but also easy. The 14x1 lh threads are almost a perfect fit for the m44 carbine. I had to sand the barrel maybe .0005", but it barely took 10 minutes. I used the front sight base assembly for the shoulder.
I did not bottom the threads, as I plan to use a crush washer.
I test fitted a slant brake from an akm, and it worked. Ordered the three prong brake and a crush washer from you guys on friday, cant wait to try it!
I have attached pictures from the project, one during threading, one of the finished threads, and one with the slant brake.
